My four years of working in a corporate environment has given me the opportunity to interact with different characters from various backgrounds especially those I never in my wildest of dreams want to be associated with.
Here are a few that deserve a mention.
Note: Any resemblance to any person below is intentional. If any of these personality traits strike a chord with you, my job's done!
The opportunist
This person wears a façade of humility and friendly attitude who initially, very convincingly manages to take you in his trap.
Opportunist will look for anything and everything that give them the possibility to portray themselves as hard workers, committed,loyal and inspiring workers. In reality they are just limelight hoggers.
By the time you realize what's actually been happening, the damage has been done. An opportunist is quicker to act and apparently is far more a clever planner than you are.
The only way to deal with them is to make a good judgment at the start. If you aren't dumb and don't take longer than usual to understand personalities, you will be able to point out these morons easily at an early stage and be able to avoid them.
The JD fanatic
This guy will pull out his job description every time you ask for help in a job that is well out of his JD. In extreme cases he can unhesitantly question the boss's order too. Typical stance being, "this is not what I am paid for".Annoyingly, they will every time shift that job to the other person, putting an argument that it suits their JD more than it suits his even if it doesn't. These guys can either succeed well in their game to an extent that they manage to convince everyone the importance of a JD and how important it is to work within it or they fail badly and eventually lose their jobs.
If you work in an environment where all employees are treated equally and nepotism is a forbidden concept (in other words a very ideal workplace which seems to be non-existent) a JD fanatic will eventually loose. However in the real world, bosses have their favorites and a guy will always dare to do something like this when he knows he has a stronger force behind.
Its always good to take up work from colleagues in the initial days of your career because every job is new and every work teaches a different thing. However its your right to question when it becomes a norm by a boss's favorite!
The Sweet as Honey
Be aware of them. Change your course, if you see them coming your way. You might think I sound negative and that some people are genuinely sweet. Yes honest, sweet people are super consistent with their attitude and you know when you work around them.
The fake ones are super professional with their tricks and know what works best with the bosses. In their company, you are ought to feel side-lined because that's exactly what they will be doing to you by simultaneously sympathizing with your circumstances because well they are sweet.
The Traitor
This person is your friend. Your gossip friend. But this person is more of your supervisor's friend who you usually gossip about. This person is a traitor.
Part ways as soon as you realize. You have already acted dumb enough!
The Clingy
1- They share your lunch.
2- Ask for lifts from home to work and vice versa religiously.
3- Never return your borrowed stationery.
4-Take up your workspace whenever they feel convenient.
5-At worst,use your pc for their own job without your approval.
They are clingy yet most harmless. Love them at your own risk!
